Neotoma Exports

Neotoma exports are the public paleoecological context surfaces derived from Neotoma. Their main public value is breadth: they keep the environmental side of the product from leaning too heavily on one pollen family alone.

That matters because you should be able to ask whether a visible geography reflects a wider paleoecological pattern or only one especially strong source stream. Neotoma helps the repository answer that question more honestly.

What Neotoma Makes Clear

  • what environmental context is visible beyond the LandClim slice
  • whether a published geography reflects agreement across more than one pollen family
  • how the repository keeps its pollenomics framing broader than one source collection
  • why a region may gain interpretive depth even when sample-backed evidence is still incomplete

What Neotoma Adds To The Public Product

Neotoma strengthens the public product by adding:

  • another pollenomics context family for comparison
  • wider paleoecological framing across geography
  • a check against overconfidence built from one source family alone

What It Does Not Do

These exports are not a substitute for sample-level evidence. They should not be read as if they:

  • settle chronology or locality questions for ancient DNA rows
  • make all visible regions equally mature
  • erase the difference between environmental context and direct sample-backed claims

Why This Matters Beyond One Region

This is especially important for people who want to reuse the codebase or the publication model in other regions. A reusable product needs multi-family context logic, not one lucky dataset.

If You Need The Repository-Owned Records

The normalized family outputs live under:

  • data/neotoma/normalized/

If your question is about the visible publication, continue to maps or reports. If your question is about the family itself, continue to Neotoma source guidance.
